Stan Manley was born and raised in Coburg, Oregon a place where his parents also grew up. A life long fan and participant in athletics, whichever sport was in season was his favorite lettering in baseball, football and basketball at Sheldon High. Stan was elected into the school’s Hall of Honor in 2010.
Stan attended Linfield College, playing baseball for the Wildcats and graduating in 1982 with a degree in business. Also at Linfield he met his future wife, Liz whom he married in 1984.
After a short career in radio advertising, Stan worked in Human Resources for a large corporation before joining the family business in 1987. As a co-owner of Manley Services, an employee benefits company he helped the company grow to having more than 40 employees before selling the company to PacificSource Health Plans in 2002. Stan continued with the new organization, acting as President of the new subsidiary until 2007.
In addition to Coaching Teens, another passion for Stan is fishing; in particular taking his drift boat down the beautiful McKenzie River. For years, he realized that the most fun he had was taking people down the river for their first time – especially kids. He saw a need where many parents don’t have the time or the wherewithal to go fishing. First Time Fishing was born and Stan became a registered guide and has helped to bring the joy of fishing and floating the McKenzie to many kids and families.
In 1991 Stan was named Head Baseball coach at his alma mater, Sheldon High School and held the job through the 1999 season when he decided to go back and spend time coaching his young sons in youth baseball. In 2012 Stan was rehired as the Head Coach and it was during this time he realized how exciting, rewarding and important it is to work with teens not only in athletics and academically, but to include the life skills that are so critical to the young adult.
Meeting John at ALC was the missing link for Stan, and he found a program that not only met his needs for a passion filled career, but more importantly has giving the students he’s worked with a tremendous tool box to use as they navigate their way through high school, college and beyond.

Why he likes to work with kids
Working with teens keeps me young, so what I do with Academic Life Coach and baseball can almost be seen as selfish. I learn something new each time I meet with a student. Their eagerness to build their own life is refreshing and motivating.
What does he love the most about where he lives
I grew up about a mile from where I live now. My boys went to the same schools as I did. Coburg is a small town just north of Eugene, Oregon. I am close to the mountains and river where I go to hike, run and fish. I love the outdoors, and living where I do gives me access to the things I enjoy most – my family and nature.
