I want to take a moment to clarify and add some insight to help further the cause of “Character Education.”
Schools face two big challenges when implementing character education.
The first is that character is unique to each person, and creating a standardized set of character classes for a group of people doesn’t work. Character education is as much an individual process as it is delivering information to a classroom.
The second is the definition of character education. It can be taken in two ways. The first is ‘moral character’ which looks at right versus wrong, fairness, and generosity. The second is ‘performance character’ which looks at resilience, curiosity, and creativity.
When thinking about applying character education in your school (or family or Life Coaching practice for teenagers) understanding the two types of character education as well as the process is individual.
