Life Coaching for Teens &
ICF Certified Coach Training
Since April 2005, Academic Life Coaching has been working with thousands of teenagers as Life Coaches. Yes, you read that right... We are Life Coaches. We work specifically with teens, who are probably the most challenging demographic on the planet.
Yet the most impressive - and surprising part - is that the students who work with us love the ALC Program. Young people are eager to do their best. They often just don't know how or why something isn't working. Within a few weeks, teens in our program begin to experience an upward cycle of having their new habits reinforced with positive results. It's exciting and fulfilling work.
Parents reading this know the angst and concern when a child isn’t doing well. Administrators and educators know the frustration, and exhaustion, of trying to reach students who are hard to reach. We know. We’ve been there.
A big part of the reason we are so excited about the Academic Life Coaching Program are the results in the lives of students we've worked with. Another part is the role that ALC is starting to play in how education adapts to equipping a new generation of students to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Your guide to Academic Life Coaching
We're passionate about our work and serious about researching the latest developments in leadership development. We put that passion and research to work in the three programs we offer. Those programs are:

1) The Academic Life Coaching Program
The Academic Life Coaching Program is a one-to-one life coaching course designed for specifically for teens. The 10-session course covers 32 concepts such as academic skills, stress management, organization, leadership, communication, and the college application.
2) ICF Approved Life Coach Training and Certification
The ALC Training and Certification Program is approved by the International Coach Federation (ICF) and qualifies you to become a Certified Academic Life Coach. You gain practical skills proven to work with teens as well as business support to build your ALC practice.
3) Basic Life Coach Training for Educators
The Life Coach Training and Certification for Educators is a shorter training and certification program for educators that also offers tools in how to use the ALC program in your classrooms. It's perfect for in-service days.
As the demand for creative, confident, and passionate people grows in the world economy, we believe programs like the Academic Life Coaching program are going to play a larger part in educating young people.
About Academic Life Coaching Founder John Andrew Williams
Academic Life Coaching was founded in 2005 by John while he was a high school Latin teacher. (For the hardcore, si hoc legere scis nimium eruditionis habes!)
Passionate about learning and education, he began researching and exploring ways to help students develop their Emotional and Social Intelligence.
He was introduced to Life Coaching in 2003 and had the fortune of being in the right place at the right time. Armed with his newly minted Life Coach training, he found himself surrounded by high school students. The key was the complete support of his school's administration to try out as many concepts as he wanted as long as he still covered his Latin curriculum.
He soon realized the incredible opportunity to equip teens in Middle and High School as well as College with training in empathy, leadership, communication, organization, and other key Emotional Intelligence and Life Coaching skills.
Thus began the mad-scientist phase of his career when he began to experiment with Life Coaching concepts in education and how to best present them to teenagers.
Over the course of two years, the Academic Life Coaching Program was developed with the feedback and input from his Latin students (plus their friends who would drop by after school to check out the latest workshop John was cooking up).
In 2009 John began his Academic Life Coaching practice fulltime and started to train others to be certified Life Coaches. His program is officially approved by the ICF in offering coach training hours sufficient for an Associate Certified Coach credential, and he's trained over 100 people to be Academic Life Coaches.
He's published four books, been a columnist for Newsweek, and has been featured dozens by dozens of organizations including the following:
- 'How to Motivate Teenagers' ABC AM Northwest Television interview
- 'Teaches Life Skills to Teens' in CNN Money
- 'Teens Turn to Life Coaches to Cope with Pressures' by the Associated Press (Here in the Huffingtonpost)
- 'Do you get an 'A' for Personality' Wall Street Journal by Elizabeth Bernstein
He lives in Portland, Oregon with his wife and two daughters.
There's still time!
